24 races down, just 12 races to go before we determine the qualifiers for the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Of the 24 races as part of the Road to the Kentucky Derby points system so far, only one horse has dominated a specific race. That horse has been entered in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park for Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Super Ninety Nine completely dominated the Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park on February 18 on a sloppy track. The Pulpit colt helped trainer Bob Baffert continue his dominance in three year old stakes races at Oaklawn over the last few years. Baffert has won the last four and six of the last nine graded stakes races.

2012: Bodemeister in Arkansas Derby
2012: Secret Circle in Rebel Stakes and Southwest Stakes
2011: The Factor in Rebel Stakes
2010: Lookin at Lucky in Rebel Stakes
2010: Conveyance – Southwest Stakes

Super Ninety Nine has certainly made a case that he could make it seven of the last ten with a win this weekend in the Rebel Stakes. He won the 1 1/16 miles Southwest Stakes by an incredible 11 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:44.84. This again on a sloppy track and quick early fractions. The win made it back to back as he had won an Allowance Optional Claiming $80,000 at Santa Anita by 3 1/4 lengths. He sat just off the pacesetter that time and finished the one mile dirt race in 1:35.11. He is 2 for 2 as a three year old. At two, he won his debut going seven furlongs at Santa Anita in October, finished 2nd beaten a 1/2 length to stablemate Really Mr Greely in the seven furlongs Hollywood Prevue Stakes (G3) at BetFair Hollywood Park in November and finished 4th in an allowance at Santa Anita in December after a bad start. This colt has showed maturity in his last two starts and should only get better with each race. He could certainly be a horse to make a future wager on the Kentucky Derby.
